Looking For The Right People

I know God is already working behind the scenes preparing the right people to join our launch team for Mosaic Church. In order to connect with those people we are having an informational meeting next Thursday, Nov. 8, at The Raven's Nest Coffee House in historic downtown Culpeper. We don't want people who don't share our vision to be a part of this team so we are trying to weed out those who have a different idea about launching a new church than we do.

One of the ways we are doing this is by our advertisements on flyers and in the newspapers. We hope to create a stir in the community...which is good advertising. We might even make a few "Christians" upset. That's okay. We're not trying to reach them anyway. God sent us here to reach the lost...the unchurched of Culpeper. Here's how our ad reads:

"Are you gifted, talented and willing to do whatever it takes to change the face of church as we know it? We want you! We want people just like us to help change what church has been to what it can become. We despise judgmental attitudes, gossiping know-it-all's, and well-dressed better than you pew sitters. We are starting a church for those who do not go to church for whatever reason. We believe you're out there just waiting for an opportunity to be a part of something from the ground up. If God is moving you to be a key player in this new work please join us at THE RAVEN'S NEST COFFEE HOUSE, Thursday, November 8, at 7:00pm for an informational meeting about MOSAIC CHURCH."

Pretty edgy, I know...but we are looking for the right people God is preparing who share our vision of a "Come as you are" church. A church passionate about reaching this postmodern culture of today.

Pray for us...pray that the word will get out...pray that the one's God is preparing will come.

If you would like to invest in God's kingdom...we are looking for financial partners. It takes money to start a new church. There is nothing greater that you could invest your money in than the kingdom of God! 100% return! How much is a changed life worth?

Let us know if you would like to partner with us.

Pumpkin Carving Party

A couple of years ago, Mechelle came up with a great idea to help us get to know our neighbors. She organized a pumpkin carving party. It was always a lot of fun. This year she wanted to continue the tradition so we invited the neighbors over last Saturday night. Both our neighbors and their kids came over along with Dana, Melody and Micah (Joel had to work). There were twelve of us down in our basement were we had put up lights and decorated. We carved pumpkins, ate chili and Mechelle's famous apple slices and toffee. We also homemade pumpkin ice cream. At the end we put candles in the pumpkins, turned off the lights and had a great time admiring all our creations. We gave away prize for the best. Everybody had a great time. Its just another way we are trying to reach out to our neighbors and be good friends to them.

One thing we are passionate about here in Culpeper is that we are not just going to "go" to church or even just "start" a church, but we want to "be" the church. Not a building but Christ's body reaching out to this lost world.

Don't just "go" to church, "be" the church!

Our First 25 Days

It's hard to believe that it's been 25 days since we rolled into town. A lot has happened in 25 days. Joel and Dana met us here to help us unload. I've never had to lug furniture UPSTAIRS before! That was a new experience. I've always wanted a house with an upstairs and God has provided it. God is so good! We have a full basement, so really we have a 3 story house. More than I ever imagined. The first guy I met in Culpeper was a guy named Walter. He came walking up from the park behind our house and started talking to Joel and I. I offered him some cash and he helped us unload the U-haul. The first week we spent unpacking boxes and setting up the house. The first few days were rough for Mechelle...looking at all those boxes and missing her home and friends back home. But, once we got it all together she felt better.

The second day we were here Mechelle met some ladies down in the park and found out about a Cub Scout Pack down the street from our house, so Bryce is in Pack 198. We didn't have internet access at our house the first week so I went to a coffee shop in downtown Culpeper called The Raven's Nest Coffee House. Everyday I would go in there and I've gotten to know the owner Jessica. She's a single mom with two teenagers who opened this coffee shop in June. She's very interested in the church we are planting and has even offered her shop to us to have our first informational meeting on Thursday night, November 8th. Pray that she will see Jesus in us as He lives out through our lives.

We are busy building friendships with our neighbors. Dave and Tracey live next door and have two daughters, Sebrina and Kylie. Jeff and Jennifer live two doors down and have two sons Jess and Jason. Mechelle walks with Tracey in the mornings in the park behind the house and I played golf with Dave this week. We had dinner with Jeff and Jennifer last week and just hung out and talked for a couple of hours. We are having them over this Saturday for a Pumpkin Carving Party in our basement. Pray that we will be good friends and have opportunities to talk with them about their need for Jesus.

Here's what's happening with Mosaic Church: We are in the process of securing the Culpeper 4 Theater as our meeting place. Pray that we will get a contract on it soon. We have a web-designer working on our web-site. We hope to have it up and running by next month. The cost of designing and hosting the web-site is $625. We are getting our Incorporation and Tax I.D. at a cost of $225. We have another guy designing our church logo and business cards for $500. So, as you can see we have some intitial expenses. If you would like to invest in God's kingdom, we'd love to hear from you to help us with these and other expenses.

Our new address is 102 S. Blue Ridge Ave., Culpeper, VA, 22701.

Our home phone is 504-825-9886.

Making it hard to go to hell from Culpeper!
